The Club 420 is great for sailors coming out of the Optimist class and enables young sailors to learn to use a jib, spinnaker and trapeze. This is a two person boat allowing you to learn teamwork. You do not need to be an expert sailor to join, we can train you as a crew with an experienced skipper and let you move to the skipper position as your skills progress. Our team practices each weekend and regularly attends regattas around the state of Florida.
The 420 is the boat for both high school and college sailing. Many colleges look for sailors with 420 experience. Most of our graduates are now sailing at the collegiate level with some of the top ranked teams in the country.
While we prefer high school students, experienced or advanced middle schoolers are also welcome on the team. This will give them a head start with high school sailing.

Will Felder, 420 Coach
» Will Felder’s 420 Reports
Will started sailing at Vineyard Haven Yacht Club in Massachusetts. Mostly racing 420’s he took to the national circuit at an early age and found passion as a crew. It wasn’t till the fast pace and aggressive introduction to team racing in Jr. High School when skippering became a priority. After graduating high school he was recruited to Salve Regina University and thrived in the sailing Mecca of Newport, Rhode Island. Recently he transferred to University of South Florida in Saint Petersburg for warm weather and more sailing. His coaching roots are in New England and he has been a coach or director at several clubs in Southern Massachusettes, Long Island, Marblehead, and Miami area. As a teaching and social sciences major at USF Will developed fervor for coaching 420 teams. “I love the sport and only hope to share my passion and show how much FUN competitive sailing can be.”
