March 6, 2010 – Standup Fitness will be here offering demonstrations and the opportunity to try one of the latest watersports that is sweeping the country – Standup Paddling. This also kicks off our partnership with Standup Fitness offering lessons and rentals of standup paddleboards out of the sailing center.
Interested in Kitesurfing, there will also be a demo of kitesurfing, this too will kick off our partership with Water Monkey offering lessons on kitesurfing out of the sailing center.
April 1-4, 2010 Small Boat Sailing Level 1 Instructor Course
The US SAILING Small Boat Sailing Level 1 Instructor Course, is designed to provide sailing instructors with information on how to teach more safely, effectively, and creatively. The goal of the program is to produce highly qualified instructors, thereby reducing risk exposure for sailing programs. Topics covered in the course include: classroom and on-the-water teaching techniques in JY15’s, risk management, safety issues, lesson planning, creative activities, ethical concerns, and sports physiology and psychology.
Must be:
- Experience in sailing small boats, such as prams, dinghies, multihulls or daysailing keelboats.
- Experience in operating a safety boat. Proof of Safe Boating certification
- Current US SAILING member
- Current First Aid and Adult CPR
- All Candidates must have reached their 16th birthday prior to the start of the course
Course fees
• Small Boat Sailing Level 1 Instructor Course fee: $325; $20 discount for registrations 4 weeks prior to course date; $50 late fee for registrations 1 week prior to course date

The course will be taught in 420’s and JY-15’s by Rich White. It is a 40hour course so most likely the class will go from 8:00am- 6:00pm.
