The windsurfing program offers kids the chance to learn how to windsurf and to progress all the way to competing on a regioal, national or international level! During the summer sailing camp program at CCSC kids have the chance to learn the basic windsurfing skills in a fun, safe setting with other kids and on equipment that is specifically made for kids sizes and weights. It’s amazing to see how quickly 10-14 year old kids can successfully learn to windsurf and are zipping around the bay on their own.
For any kids who wish to continue on windsurfing after the summer camp, they can join the Youth Windsurfing Team. These kids have regularly scheduled practices on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons all year long. The emphasis is FUN and learning more advanced skills, including racing (just like racing sailboats but faster!) if they are interested. This is a cool program with advanced kids who are preparing for international competition, kids who are preparing regional races and kids who are just starting to learn about all the things you can do windsurfing. The team members are all supportive of each other and the new kids (it wasn’t so long ago that they were the new kids!). You can see the results of the practice and coaching these kids receive in Cullen Ahearn and Margot Samson who both learned to windsurf here at CCSC.
The Youth Windsurfing Team is coached by Britt Viehman who is an avid windsurfer, US Sailing Certified Windsurfing Instructor Trainer, Coach of the National Youth Windsurfing and races himself any time he gets the chance.
